However, it has a limited music library. You also can’t skip unlimited songs, and you’ll hear ads here. If you want full access to Amazon’s 60 million song library and have full control over what you listen to (with no ads, of course), you can get an Amazon Music subscription.

A third alternative is something in the middle for Prime users. With your Amazon Prime subscription, you’ll also get access to about two million songs with no ads and unlimited song skipping. You can also listen offline or while using other apps.

Apple Music

If you’re a committed Apple user, you can still use an Echo speaker with an Apple device . You can also connect to your Apple Music account easily. If you don’t have a paid subscription, you can take advantage of a free trial period that will let you access part of the service’s catalog.

Once you get a subscription, Apple Music gives you access to over 90 million songs and more than 30,000 playlists. That’s a lot of music! You can also download a limited number of songs to listen to when you’re offline or when your internet connection is sketchy.

Spotify

Spotify is easily one of the biggest streaming services out there right now. So, naturally, Alexa knows how to connect to it and load up your account. And that can be a free account if you’re using an Amazon Echo speaker.

With a free account, you get a special deal that allows you to listen to Today’s Top Hits and Discover Weekly playlist services. However, if you get a subscription to Spotify Premium, it’s a whole different world.

You’ll have access to millions of songs, and you can even download up to 10,000 tracks to listen to offline. You can make your own playlists and search for just about every song ever by title or artist. Also, you get to use the Hulu video streaming service for great shows and movies.

Pandora

Pandora was one of the very first streaming services and used to be available worldwide. However, for licensing reasons, it’s now only available in the US. Furthermore, it is now owned by Sirius XM and is more or less the free version of that service.

It’s not exactly free, though. Think “freemium” instead. This is an ad-supported radio streaming service. You can skip unlimited songs and even hear some up-and-coming artists and up-vote them, as long as you don’t mind catching an ad once in a while.

Sirius XM

As the owner of Pandora, Sirius is a pretty big hitter in its own right. This is one of the first and biggest online radio streaming services ever, and it continues to get bigger.

While other streaming services just give you playlists, Sirius XM features curated radio shows with hosts to explain and introduce the music. However, these are recorded programs that you can access or skip through at any time.

You can get a free trial of Sirius for a whopping four months to test it out. You’ll be able to access radio programs that include music, but also talk shows, comedy, news, and more. Then you can get a subscription that suits your listening needs.

Deezer

Deezer is another big streaming platform that offers both a free version and paid subscriptions. The free version is a tester, and it’s pretty limited.

You can listen through playlists, but you have a limited number of songs you can skip. You can’t specifically choose songs, but you can use them to direct you to related playlists.

The paid version of Deezer is a one-size-fits-all premium subscription. However, you can get full access to everything the service offers, and you can also buy a yearly subscription for a cheap price.

iHeartRadio

iHeart Radio is the biggest radio broadcaster in America . It gives you broadcast, podcast, and streaming radio services based on a “freemium” format.

If you want to go ad-free, there are premium options like iHeartRadio Plus and iHeartRadio All Access that allow you to also download music for offline listening.

TuneIn

TuneIn is a free podcast and online radio app. It offers a choice of over 100,000 radio stations and has as many as five million podcast episodes to check out. You can also listen to music by searching by genre.

The free version of the app is ad-based. If you want to opt for TuneIn Radio or TuneIn Radio Pro, you can pay a subscription fee to get away from ads. But, this also gives you access to live pro sports games and coverage that you can listen to at any time.

Tidal

Tidal is a music streaming platform owned by the reigning hot couple of music, Beyoncé and Jay-Z. They’ve pushed the idea that their platform offers better royalty deals for artists. So, by using it to listen to your favorite artists, more of your subscription money will go to support them.

This is a paid service with many different subscription deals that give you access to their 90+ million song library as well as over 450,000 videos. You can also get limited access to the service with a free trial to find out if this is the right service for you.

Gimme Radio

Gimme Radio is something different from what we’ve been looking at on this list. Instead of streaming music from all genres, Gimme is dedicated to only two genres – Country and Metal. Each version of Gimme is focused on audio and video shows that are hosted by both artists and lovers of these genres.
